A taste of South Africa

I don’t know about you, but all I have been talking about with anyone the past few days is about the triple digits that are gracing us this summer…. And they don’t seem to be going anywhere- anytime soon. So in the spirit of the heat we chose 3 bottles that will go head to head with this insane Oklahoma heat wave. Each one should be served chilled- yes that means the red too!  Put the red in the fridge for around 30 minutes before serving- the temperature should be around 60 degrees. The pinot gris is a skin contact wine- drinks like a dry rose, and the chenin blanc!!! - you will see why it's been a staff favorite.   :)

To combat this weather we decided no one should be cooking elaborate recipes- this time I suggest pairing each of these with a cheese or charcuterie board. (If you were smart enough to add on the market basket we've got you covered!) Grab some cheese & meats from our deli counter. Then load it up with some pickles, mustard, jam or whatever condiment you've got at the house and enjoy! But if you are really in the cooking mood- light summery pastas or seafood will pair well with any of the three.

A little on South African wines

South Africa’s "winelands," as they're known, are among the most beautiful wine-producing regions in the world. And while it's often categorized as a New World wine country, South Africa's wines offer impressively good value, and feature styles and tastes that are food friendly, blending elegance and power. South Africa has been producing wine since the first vines were planted in the 17th century, brought by the Dutch governors of Cape Colony. And the vineyards have been thriving for centuries— but a new generation of vintners and growers have been injecting a deep sense of excitement into the nation's wine industry. In that sense, South Africa's wine is both Old and New World.

Cheers, Andrea
