Wines that are perfect to enjoy with a meal with family and friends. We’ve included a white, and two lighter bodied reds. And for the “Market Add on” this month we’ve added a bonus sparkling wine! Because let's face it we all need a little more wine around the holidays ;) No matter how you plan on spending turkey day these wines are extremely food friendly and will pair well with most Thanksgiving menus- traditional or not! Here are some suggestions on pairings.
This Argentinian sparkling is made in the traditional champagne method and is 100% chardonnay. Crack this baby open while cooking or pair it with a cheese course before the big meal.
This hand harvested sparkling wine is made from 100% Chardonnay grapes from multiple vineyards within the Uco Valley. The nose is bursting with notes of peach, pineapple, mango, mandarin, and watermelon that lead into a bright and fresh palate laced with green apple anda touch of fresh baked bread. Tight bubbles, a touch of sweetness, and toasted almonds with fine chalky tannins round out this delicious wine.
Italians know how to make wine with lots of great acidity- which makes it exactly what you want when pairing- this will cut through all those butter filled dishes but also complement a light salad course.
Alto Adige Valle Isarco DOC
A full-bodied, elegant white wine. Yellowish-green to straw yellow in color. A soft scent of honey, pears, and bananas. Powerful and nutty on the palate with a balanced finish.
Beaujolais is the name of a little area in France just south of Burgundy that makes wine with Gamay grapes. Don’t confuse this wine with the Thanksgiving tradition of Beaujolais Nouveau- while the Nouveau can be delicious (Nouveau is the very young wine released right after harvest usually on the third week of November and that just happens to coincide with our holiday) but the village & cru bottlings like this one have more substantial tannins and structure.
This wine is subtle enough to not over power your turkey but has enough body to hold its own with lamb, beef or salmon.
Just like Italy- France knows how to make wine that compliments your dinner- and this wine is no exception. Lightly chilled this natural red from the Loire Valley is the perfect finisher with the meal or enjoy with that slice of pecan or pumpkin pie!
Vineyard: Clay and limestone. 25 – 60 years old vines, farmed organically (in conversion)
Making of: the grapes are destemmed and hand-sorted before being crushed and put into vats. The maceration then takes 5-6 weeks, with regular punchdowns, with indigenous yeast only. Once pressed, the juice spends around a year in concrete tanks. Filtered, not fined.
Personality: One of the typical grapes of the area, the Cabernet Franc instantly entices you with its smooth tannins and dark fruit flavors mingled with spicy / earthy undertones. Enjoy lightly chilled, on its own or next to some roast beef, BBQ, country hams or rustic patés.
